Everybody back to the cahpeht

"If you believed any of this you'd be a congregation and not an audience" - Jamie Ian Swiss

Things one spake ...

Speed up a darcs repo by making it boring

Having loads of file in a repo which aren't required can slow down a repo. If this is the case, ignoring these can speed up actions on the repo.

Raphaël Javascript Library

This guy is my new person JS hero: Raphaël is a small JavaScript library that should simplify your work with vector graphics on the web. If you want to create your own specific chart or image crop and rotate widget, for example, you can achieve it simply and easily with this library.

GTA IV Libert City Comparison With New York

A side-by-side comparison between land marks and various buildings in New York against those in Liberty City in Rockstar's GTA IV.

Bill O'Reily Goes Ape

Ok, so I wouldn't normally put this kind of thing up - I'd leave it to the likes of neebone.co.uk - but I just had to post it. I'm not a fan of O'Reily, he's trash as far as I'm concerned, and I can't believe Fox allow his air time. This just proves it. Warning: contains foul language. Viewer discretion is advised.

Ten Tips for a (Slightly) Less Awful Resume

Just as WooMe are looking to hire people to support their platform, I came across this quite humorous blog post by Steve Yegge on resume writing. FTFA: Hence, many wank-filled resumes wind up looking, after the screeners have marked them up a bit, like this: "Senior wanker wanking for the Wank-Wank Institute of Wankology on the wank wank wank project during which I wanked successfully with seven other wanky wankers."

The Python Paradox

And for programmers the paradox is even more pronounced: the language to learn, if you want to get a good job, is a language that people don't learn merely to get a job.

When Windows Are Not Enough

The title might be slightly misleading. No it's not about tiling window managers. It's about how scripting tasks can make life so much easier. The Rule Of Three sums it up quite nicely: The first time you do something you just do it. The second time you do something similar, you wince at the duplication, but you do the duplicate thing anyway. The third time you do something similar, you refactor.

Django Master Class

Mosaic of 650 django-powered sites

The community is expanding - a very good thing. The selection is taken from djangosites.org and the wiki, which has a couple hundred more at time of press. No, I'm not on there :(

Darcs moves to 1.0.9

(I'm a bit late but...) The distributed version control system, Darcs, moves to 1.0.9 as of June 2007. It's mainly bug fixes with a handful features, but the update of over 200 changes is still very appreciated.

Django's entered the (not so) terrible two's

Two years and the amount of people who haven't heard of Django is still amazing. It's as if the whole project is underground - the first rule of Django, you do not talk about Django.
